General Surgeon(s)
interested in providing services at
Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital at Fort Polk in Leesville, Louisiana.
Hours of Work: AM Shift: 0800-1630 Monday-Friday
On-Call: Shall perform on-call duty during evenings, weekends, and legal federal holidays as scheduled; normal on-call coverage hours are Monday-Sunday 24 hours
On-Call schedule is considered very light. In a 7 day period, the General Surgeon should expect 4 - 5 phone calls, and out of this, 2 will require a face-to-face interaction at the hospital. The General Surgeon should expect to be on call every third week for a 7 day period.
THE IDEAL GENERAL SURGEON WILL:
Conducts hospital rounds, writes orders, and takes calls for the general surgery clinic. Evaluates and clarifies clinical conditions, formulates and implements treatment or therapeutic plans for hospitalized patients, dictates discharge summaries, histories and physicals. Evaluates, screens, and counsels patients on health maintenance and promotes utilization of community resources.
Attend and participate in local patient care reports, patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is relative to his/her assigned cases and/or performance of contract services as determined by Department Chief.
Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with MTF policies and regulations
Be able to perform the full range of medical services consistent with their training and experience to adequately diagnose and treat acute diseases and injuries to include but not limited to:
Skin Pulmonary System
Head Gastrointestinal System
Eyes Musculoskeletal System
Ears Genitourinary System
Nose Reproductive System
Throat Lymphatic System
Neck Central Nervous System
Cardiovascular System Endocrine System
Perform operations, in accordance with accepted methods. Consult with and assist other doctors.
THE IDEAL GENERAL SURGEON CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) having successfully completed an accredited Undergraduate Program, Internship, and Residency Program. Graduates of foreign medical schools are required to possess both a medical license and other certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or 5th Pathway.
Be Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
Current, active, valid, unrestricted state license to practice medicine in one of the 50 states in the United States, or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the US Virgin Islands as required to obtain or renew a DEA registration number under the then effective DEA rules. License must correspond to DEA registration number.
Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
Minimum of one year of experience within the last three years routinely practicing as a Physician rendering General Surgery care.
